CodeBord Exterior Insulating Sheathing CodeBord Air Barrier System Build with Owens Corning Canadaís CodeBord Air Barrier System Help keep heat energy from leaking away. REDUCES CONDENSATION POTENTIAL: CodeBord PINK extruded polystyrene rigid insulating sheathing helps keep heat inside the structure and keeps the cavity and studs warmer. This reduces the potential for condensation which could threaten deterioration of the structural elements, plus contribute to poor indoor air quality. REDUCES THERMAL BRIDGING: Heat transfer through the studs is restricted by an envelope of insulation surrounding the exterior walls. AFFORDABILITY: Control your costs of wall assembly by using CODEBORD insulating sheathing. Our history of pricing stability for foam insulation has made cost and profit projections more reliable year round. Let your Owens Corning Area Sales Manager work with you to create a cost effective program that suits your business. CODEBORD sheathing advantages : Larger Sheets: Our 4' x 8' and 4' x 9' panels go up FAST! The larger CODEBORD insulation panels installed vertically, produce less joints than 2' x 8' panels installed horizontally thereby reducing the opportunity for moisture and air infiltration. ELIMINATES TAPING AND SHEATHING MEMBRANE: Building paper is not required (refer to NBC 2005, 9.27.3.4.) and shiplap joints minimize air and rain penetration without the need for joint taping. EASE OF INSTALLATION: CODEBORD sheathing is lightweight yet strong, making it easy to handle and trim, with finished wall frames requiring less labour to lift. Waste is reduced because stud finders marked on each panel help your carpenter find the correct nailing position immediatelyÖ all of which lead to REDUCED MATERIAL and LABOUR COSTS! ENERGY EFFICIENCY: With todayís focus on energy awareness, prospective home buyers are more apt to pay a premium for the benefit of an energy-efficient new home because the additional cost can be off-set, sometimes even exceeded, by the savings in utility costs. CodeBord Air Barrier System: CodeBord sheathing can also be installed as a component of the CodeBord Air Barrier System. The Owens Corning high-performing System, featuring CODEBORD sheathing and other airtight materials, is designated a system because it focuses on the assembly of these materials to provide a continuous, airtight exterior envelope. The National Building Code of Canada requires that all buildings have a continuous air barrier system! 9.25.3. Air Barrier Systems NBC 2005. And, it is easy to install! Properly designed and installed air barrier systems can help reduce risks of condensation and mold growth and contribute to energy savings for the home owner. Uncontrolled air leakage can lead to unnecessary heat loss in the winter or heat gain in the summer, condensation which can lead to moisture damage and mold growth in hidden cavities, effluorescence stains on brick cladding, spalling of bricks, rain penetration and poor indoor temperature and humidity control. Heat loss through air leakage can be significant. NOTE: FoamSealRTM gaskets used for the installation of the CodeBord Air Barrier System. CCMC Approved. CodeBord Exterior Insulating Sheathing CodeBord Air Barrier System CodeBord Air Barrier System R-VALUES CodeBord sheathing is available in three energy saving thicknesses, R-5, R-7.5 and R- 10, to help meet building code requirements, using a 2" x 4" or 2" x 6" stud wall. 4' x 8', 4' x 9' Saves labour costs and reduces number of joints. MOISTURE RESISTANCE Helps to keep wall dry. Fungi resistant. APPROVED & TESTED CAN/ULC-S701, TYPE 3, CCMC listing # 11246-L, CCMC Air Barrier System evaluation report I2935-R. ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE GREENGUARD Certified. Meets Montreal protocol. SCS recycled content 15%. INSTALLATION CODEBORD sheathing should be installed with the printed side on the exterior of the wall to take advantage of the stud-finder lines printed on each sheet. Apply CodeBord sheets vertically. For the CodeBord Air Barrier System, fasten insulation to framing with appropriate nails and washers, or roofing nails at 6" (150 mm) max. centres on vertical edges of panels and at 8" (300 mm) on intermediate supports. CodeBord sheathing has a shiplap edge which provides a tight fit at the joint. No taping is required at ship lapped edges. According to the National Building Code of Canada (NBC article 9.23.10.2.2)a), permanent bracing is not required where walls are finished on the interior with 1/2" gypsum board, or similar material conforming to the requirements of section 9.29 of the NBC. When the interior of the framed wall is not finished, please consult the National Building Code or local codes for bracing requirements. Cut-in or steel bracing may be installed as a better building practice. CODEBORD sheathing contains a flame retardant to inhibit accidental ignition from a small fire source; however, it will burn if exposed to open flame. To prevent discoloration caused by excessive exposure to direct sunlight, exterior finish should be applied as soon as practicable.
